Cabin-Warming

There's a small cabin a little ways up the mountain behind Milliways. It's cozy-looking and inviting, smoke streaming softly from the chimney. It's well-lit and welcoming on a cold, snowy night.

It's not the largest of cabins, and there's no electricity, so the light comes only from the fireplace and a few kerosene lamps scattered around the room. But there's a small iPod hooked up to some speakers playing in the corner of the room, and most of the furniture has been pushed towards the fireplace to make a sort of make-shift dance floor.

The Devil plays the wallflower, watching the open space and the people. Dance is good, but more often than not, she needs to work double hard to get a dance.

For now, she watches.

Ipod. She has one as well, but her musical tastes are not much for dancing.

Ravin just listens and sways in place, alone, not expecting to find a dance partner.

Ipod...?

What about live music? Ben brought his guitar and a wide repertorie of songs (music cypher sheets of popular party selections).

Does Ben play music you can dance to? Lorne promised Jack there could be dancing.

"You play?" he says when he sees Ben's guitar.

"Yeah, I do. Thought you could use live music?" The hands over the thick folder with the music sheets, party songs, things to dance to. "Pick what you want."

"Lorne flips through the music for a moment then hands the folder back. "Play whatever you feel like, man," he says. "I'm pretty easy-going about that. If my boyfriend stops by, though, he might have a request or two."

"No problem, man, anytime." Ben chuckles and nods, starting a good animated tune for dancing.

Jack slides his hands around Lorne's shoulders and kisses his neck. "May I have this dance?"

"Always," Lorne says, smiling and turning his head for a kiss.

Jack kisses his lips quickly and turns him around. He settles his hands on Lorne's waist and begins to sway.

"Nice party, isn't it?"

"Yeah," Lorne says, sliding his hands over Jack's shoulders. "It turned out pretty well."

Jack leans their foreheads together. "Haven't seen if anybody's gotten into a snowball fight yet, but the night's still young."

Lorne laughs softly. "Well, if they don't, we can always start one ourselves."

Jack gooses him lightly. "Yup."

Lorne yelps a little, pressing closer to Jack. "Hey, now," he murmurs. "Not in front of the kids."

Jack glances around. "If they're old enough to be here, they're old enough to deal with two men who are attracted to each other."

"Fair enough," Lorne says and kisses Jack deeply.

Jack laughs quietly and holds the back of Lorne's head as they kiss.

Lorne pulls back a little and nuzzles Jack's nose. "You're right," he murmurs. "Everyone here's old enough to see that."

"And cope with it." He lays his head on Lorne's shoulder. (He has to stoop a little. He's okay with that.)

"I suppose they wouldn't be here if they had a problem with it," Lorne says softly, kissing Jack's forehead.

"Or they just came for the free food." He smiles.

"Well, then this is their price of admission," Lorne says, chuckling softly.

Jack chuckles too. "They're getting off easy."
