Cabin-Warming

There's a small cabin a little ways up the mountain behind Milliways. It's cozy-looking and inviting, smoke streaming softly from the chimney. It's well-lit and welcoming on a cold, snowy night.

"Probably I should not, really: it is my first attempt at cooking, they are probably toxic." Ravin shrugs.

Actually, they are not, they are excellent, but the young woman does not know it. "I'm Ravin."

"It's pretty hard to screw up brownies," Lorne says. "So long as you remembered chocolate and sugar, they should be fine."

He offers a hand to shake. "Lorne. It's good to meet you."

Her hand is small, slender and soft. And a bit cooler than normal.

"Thank you." She also learned to not question human niceties in social environments. "I saw the announcement of the party, and was curious."

"Well, I'm glad you stopped by," Lorne says, smiling. "The more, the merrier."

Ravin nods a bit, almost smiling at that. "I am not much one for crowds."

"Well, I doubt it'll get too crowded here. It's not really that sort of party."

That makes her blink. "And what sort of party it is?" In her understanding, parties usually mean a lot of people.

"The casual kind," Lorne says, shrugging. "Jack and I aren't exactly hugely popular, so I don't expect it to get huge, y'know?"

"Popular." Ravin shakes head. "People worry about that too much. Like they need to exclude some people to feel better. They need to make some people 'wrong'."

Lorne shrugs again. "I don't worry about it. I've got friends enough."

"If you don't mind a half-human sorceress, you can have one more." The offer is sincere, the 'odd ones' need to stick together.

Lorne laughs. "I don't mind at all," he says.

That gets him more of a smile, and also a brief, spontaneous hug. "Good, thank you."

Ravin glances around the place. "I like this... simple... practical."

Lorne smiles bemusedly at the hug.

"Thank you. We built it ourselves. Simple and practical is exactly what we were going for."

Don't mind her, Ravin is just... strange. "And quiet. I think it would be very quiet here away from people."

"I like quiet. It is good for me and my studying."
